You'll be fine with bug brakes as long as you only ever follow heavily loaded HGVs _________________ "They say the definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result" The Hives |

Also, gonna have to consider brakes at the same time I guess. |
PM Lucky on here,he's the new owner of that fastback and he sent me loads of pics of how it's done on that.
If you get chance go and fetch those brakes from Foxy and have a look in his garage-well worth a trip |

So are you running spindles then Foxy? Talking to John from KCW he said that its possible to nearly get the apron on the ground without, I guess though that spindles would improve the ride no end. |
Yep spindles as well. _________________

So I pressume you'll be running Porsche rims and making the most of the std brakes redrilled?
I' need to find a good set of wide 5 discs for B/j with dropped spindles but I want to get the minimum increase in offset. The worst case scenario would be type 3 disc brakes with adaptors on a drop spindle but this could add so much to the track I could end up without any narrowing _________________ "They say the definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result" The Hives |

Useful KCW link
T3 L/p from KCW
KCW Type 3 Air beam (has some useful info too)
More Air (but the pictures are helpful)
If you've got any more useful links of what you've found during your research post em up (It's good to share!) _________________ "They say the definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result" The Hives |

Yep 4.5 fuch on standard discs, with some non standard calipers though.

That looks awesome Si.. You using bug discs? with beefier calipers?
Would standard bug disc brakes be sufficient? ie, just drums would be? |

Yep just standard bug discs.
As Craig said earlier I think, due to the weight of a type 3 I wouldn't run bug brakes. I've heard of people doing it in the states, yeah it would work but due to their small size they'd run hotter and you'd probably end up with bad brake fade.
I pressume you wanna run bug drums to keep the wide 5 stud pattern? _________________

yeah.. that's pretty much it. I'm gonna struggle to find the cash quickly to go CSP or CB Wide 5. Plus, seeing as I doubt it'd add to the value of the car a whole lot it's whether it'd be worth it if I decided to sell next year (which is a possibility).
All swings and roundabouts. Just looking at options really. |

This fastback has got T3 discs with adaptors and Empi 5s (similar offset to your wheels,I think) and looks quite tucked

Yeah I think the beam is 5" with shock towers on the inner wings, something I didn't want to do. Also it hasn't got dropped spindles. _________________

That fasty has reasured me no end! I can rebuild the front on the cheaper brake option initially (I plan to use the late type 3 calipers on the front, probable with cross drilled or grooved discs to improve the cooling.
Last night went really well, as it confirmed that my system will work perfectly

that looks cool Craig.
So how easy is it to fit type 3 brakes to a type 1 trailing arm? Cos I'm not that bothered about running adaptors to get it back to wide 5 for the time being and seeing as I'm having the disk set up off Foxy I could put it to use.
Just means I've gotta go a little narrower. |
